Dr. Michael Versackas was born in Ottumwa, Iowa. Prior to settling in Des Moines, he attended Columbus High School in Waterloo. He earned his bachelor’s degree in economics and general science with the highest distinction from the University of Iowa in 1969, where he also inducted to the Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society in 1969.
Dr. Versackas graduated from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in 1973. After earning his medical degree, Dr. Versackas interned at the Los Angeles County Harbor General Hospital in Torrance, California. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at the Barnes Hospital at the Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
Dr. Versackas is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Versackas has practiced ophthalmology in Des Moines since 1977, entirely at Associated Ophthalmologists, PC.
Dr. Versackas and his wife, Diane, live in West Des Moines. They have three grown children and five lovely grandchildren.
